Management of uninhabited islands
  • Uninhabited Islands?
    • Overview
      • The Act on the Conservation and Management of Uninhabited Islands, the purpose of which is to contribute to the promotion of public welfare with the systematic management of uninhabited islands and surrounding waters by prescribing matters necessary for the conservation and management of uninhabited islands and surrounding waters, was enacted in 2007.
      • It is the program of regularly conducting the comprehensive survey of ecological values, geographical and natural attributes human-social environments and then categorizing the management types based on the conservation values derived from the survey to establish the measures to systematically use each type and routinely inspecting each uninhabited island to correct the identified problems.
    • Designation of Uninhibited Islands by Type of Management
      • Uninhabited islands under absolute conservation: Uninhabited islands for which measures to restrict certain acts should be taken or measures to restrict ordinary access are necessary because their value of conservation is very high or they need to be particularly conserved in connection with the establishment of the territorial sea
      • Uninhabited islands under quasi-conservation: Uninhabited islands for which measures to restrict certain acts should be taken or measures to restrict access temporarily may be taken if necessary, because their value of conservation is high
      • Available uninhabited islands: Uninhabited islands where people's access and activities are permitted to the extent that such access and activities do not cause damage to their shape and condition
      • Developable uninhabited islands: Uninhabited islands are the islands other than uninhibited islands under absolute conservation, uninhabited islands under quasi-conservation and available uninhabited islands where certain development is permitted
    • Survey and Inspection of Uninhibited Islands
      • Survey of uninhibited islands: The survey of uninhabited islands, which are part of marine territory, is the program of regularly conducting the comprehensive survey of ecological values, geographical and natural attributes human-social environments and then categorizing the management types based on the conservation values derived from the survey to establish the measures to systematically use each type and routinely inspecting each uninhabited island to correct the identified problems.
      • Inspection of uninhibited islands: While the survey of uninhabited islands is a comprehensive professional survey of conditions of uninhibited islands, the inspection of uninhibited islands is a direct inspections of management conditions such as damage of the islands, contamination of surrounding waters and utilization of uninhibited islands by the agency responsible for inspecting the uninhibited islands.
